Trade and trade policy: the EU clothing import market and its ten largest supplying countries, 3rd quarter 2012

29 pages, published in Issue 19, 3rd quarter 2012
Report price: Euro 395.00; US $ 520.00

This report provides vital analysis of the EU clothing import market including data relating to around 50 categories of apparel imports from the leading ten suppliers, including China, Turkey, Bangladesh, India, Tunisia, Morocco, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Indonesia. In the year ending June 30, 2012, EU clothing imports fell in value by 1.8%, although they were still at their second highest level on record. In volume terms, however, imports were at their lowest level since 2005. At the same time, the average import price rose by 7.3% to its highest level since 2002, due largely to a sharp increase in the cost of raw materials -- particularly the cost of raw cotton. Imports were up in value from five of the top ten supplying countries. But in volume terms imports were up from only one country, namely Vietnam. China continued to be the EU's largest clothing supplier.
